Roadside Planting Ponderosa under Powerlines

Robert L. McNitt

Ponderosa planted along the highways is attractive and good promotion for Willamette Valley ponderosa. However, they grow fast and if planted under power lines are quickly an issue for the power company. Their solution is most likely to top them. This not only makes the trees unattractive but if done at the wrong time of the year can contribute to the California five-spined ips bark beetle outbreaks in a nearby plantations. Please think twice before creating a potential problem.
