AF&PA Industrial Research Cooperative Forum
November 27-28, 2001
Participating Organizations
AF&PA Western Research Committee Oregon State University Pacific Northwest Research Station University of Idaho University of Montana University of Washington Western Forestry and Conservation Association
The Western Research Sub-committee of AF&PA's Forest Science and Technology Committee held a day and a half forum on cooperative research in the West. The focus was on cooperative and collaborative work funded in part by industry targeted at intensive management of forest systems. Recent discussions among industry scientists and practitioners, cooperative leadership, and Forest Service research personnel have brought to light significant research questions that are not being addressed by cooperatives, seem to span cooperative "boundaries", and in many cases require funds not readily available. Integrative research, including decision support models and tools are particularly difficult to fit into current research structures. This forum is seen as a first step in trying to address these challenges on a regional basis.
Mission Statement
To review industry's research needs for maximum fiber production and value in the west; and to determine if the existing research programs are collectively satisfying these needs.
Explore ways to better integrate what existing research programs do and identify ways to finance work that can't be done within the existing framework.
